How many students are enrolled in AP courses?
Our eight AP courses have an enrollment of over 220 students. One third of AP students elect to take over 130 exams each year. Geneva High School's enrollment in grades 9-12 is over 800 students.

What is the environment like when taking AP exams?
Geneva High School makes every effort to offer a formal and silent testing environment. There are two proctors who supervise the testing center. We strictly enforce the College Board's security requirements regarding start times, exam security, calculator recommendations and student behavior. The exams are three hours with one scheduled break. The exam registration routine takes approximately 40 minutes and begins promptly at the scheduled time. Exams are held in a quiet off-campus location when necessary.
How much do exams cost?
AP exams cost $84.00 each, including a $13.00 non-refundable deposit due several weeks before the exams. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch may be eligible for a fee waiver.
When are exams scheduled?
Exams are held during the first two weeks in May. These are timed exams, scheduled throughout thousands of schools, with precise start and completion times.
How long are the exams?
Exams are three hours in length with an additional 45 minutes of breaks and paperwork. Afternoon exams are usually concluded by 3:45 and morning exams are dismissed at 11:45. These exams are taken in a formal testing environment.
How do I register for exams?
In March, you will receive a form from your AP teacher(s). When you provide a check payable to Geneva High School for $13.00 for each exam, exams will be ordered for you.
How are AP exams graded?
There are two parts of an exam: multiple choice and free response. The score is a weighted combination of these two sections with the following 5-point scale:
5 = extremely well qualified
4 = well qualified
3 = qualified
2 = possibly qualified
1 = no recommendation
How successful are our Geneva students?
While the exams are optional, we encourage all students to have the experience of college-level testing. In 2003, thhe average score among 130 exams was 3.86, with 17 AP Scholars, including a National Scholar. In 2004, 162 exams yielded 28 AP Scholars. More than one million students in 14,000 schools worldwide take these exams. The AP experience is successful, with credit extended to students' efforts, parents' encouragement, teachers' skills and administrative support.
Do all colleges accept AP exams for course credit?
While colleges and universities vary in policy, grades of 4 & 5 are accepted for course credit and most accept a score of 3. It’s recommended to explore the college’s policy on course credit or placement.
When do I receive my grades?
AP Grade Reports are sent in July.
How do colleges obtain my grades?
On the day of the exam, a form is provided that lists college code numbers. The College Board sends your complete AP Grade Report to the college you designate on your answer form.
